Exit Glacier
While in the Last Frontier, be sure to schedule time in Kenai Fjords National Park. This magnificent 669,000 acre park, is home to Exit Glacier in the Harding Icefield, one of the largest Icefields in the country. This historical glacier, located in the Kenai Mountains, was the site of the first documented Icefield crossing, in 1968. The ten-person mountaineering expedition crossed the Icefield over a span of eight days, from Chernof Glacier to Exit Glacier, finishing near Seward.
The glacier is the only section of Kenai Fjords National Park that is accessed by a road. After stopping at the Visitor Center, choose one of the several hiking trails to get a close look at this active glacier. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture an image of this beautiful glacier. Ranger-led tours are also available.
