Denali National Park and Preserve
Denali National Park and Preserve was established in 1917 and initially named Mount McKinley National Park. In 1976, the park was designated an international biosphere reserve. In 1980, the Denali Wilderness was established within the park and the park was renamed to Denali National Park and Preserve. This 6-million-acre park and 1-million preserve is home to Mount McKinley, the highest mountain peak in the United States, at an elevation of 20,320 feet.
Visit this beautiful park to see the incredible mountain peaks, glaciers, forest and tundra. While in the park, be aware of the grizzly bears, black bears, gray wolves, moose and sheep that inhabit the park. Marmots, beavers, snowshoe hares, owls, hawks and golden eagles also live in the park. Mountaineering, backpacking, hiking, fishing and mountain biking are popular activities in this wonderful Alaska treasure.
