Baranov Museum
The Baranov Museum, located in Kodiak, showcases a wonderful collection of historical exhibits. The museum is housed in the 200-year-old Erskine House, also known as the Russian American Magazin. Step into this National Historic Landmark to view exhibits of the Alutiiq culture from the Russian colonial period to present times. The museum not only collects and preserves historical artifacts, photographs and documents, but researches data on the Kodiak and Aluetian Islands region for educational purposes.
Take your time strolling through the museum to view over 2,000 items on display including weapons, textiles, tools and the 26-foot wood frame Alutiiq kayak covered in sea lion skin.
