Alaska State Museum
The Alaska State Museum has been collecting and preserving artifacts for the state of Alaska since 1900. Historical objects were initially housed in the Arctic Brotherhood Building in Juneau until 1967 when the current museum was built. Visitors touring the museum will see 27,000 objects on display. The museum facility was the first concrete structure built in the state and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
The Museum was accredited by the American Association of Museums in 1975, in 1987 and 2001. The state also manages the 6,000 piece collection from the Sheldon Jackson Museum. While in Juneau, take time to learn about Alaska's rich history. Stay at Best Western hotels to enjoy excellent guest services and amenities.
